Smart TV Remote

This project was a case study into polymers where I chose to focus on creating a generic and simple remote control designed to control a smart TV or a projector in a shared use environment such as an office or in a school. The focus of the project was to dive deeper into the manufacturing processes and material choices in a quick product development process. The project was conducted over the span of three weeks.

The final product is a very simple and minimalistic product designed for longevity and ease of use. Thanks to the solar cell of the back of the control there is no need for swappable batteries and thus no need for a battery cover. The housing of the control is made from ABS plastic with a slightly rough and matte finish to avoid collecting fingerprints and scratches over time. The buttons are made from durable TPU for good looking buttons even after years of usage. The buttons are also very shallow to avoid dirt getting stuck in small cramped spaces in between. The icons on the buttons are made from the same material but in a different color and molded together with the button to create an icon that stands out and cannot be worn off over time.
